Sometimes You Have To Slow Down To Speed Up

Sometimes You Have To Slow Down To Speed Up

I remember the first time, I attempted to make Ramen Noodles – it was eventful as I almost caught the house on fire. I am sure there are some people wondering how anyone could mess up something as simple as that, and from that one question stems a lifelong lesson I learned on that eventful day.

The Ramen Noodles fiasco began one afternoon when I was home alone for just a few moments as my mom was going to pick up my younger brother from school (as we were in different schools due to different grades – we started and finished school at different times, hence why we had different pick up times). Home alone with a pang of pain setting in as my stomach was churning with hunger, as I was accustomed to having some food already waiting for me at the table, while my mom went to pick up my brother from school.

Hungry and impatient, I grabbed the box of Ramen Noodles to hastily read the instructions – in the midst of rushing, I didn’t read where it said to add water.

Yes, it was a nightmare.

Am I glad it happened – yes, as I learned the importance of sometimes you have to be willing to slow down to speed up.

In today’s day and age, with so many things demanding our time, energy, and effort – in between the juggling act to find a work – life balance in midst of  work, school, family, and friends … it is easier said than done to not feel rushed and make rash decisions.

People often assume that I am a young successful adult, to have earned my Master Of Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in Marketing and have helped launch a successfully locally owned family run restaurant – people assume that sheer intelligence and luck have contributed to me now being a current cofounder and  marketing director, at the age of 24.

I am where I am in life now, due to passion and planning.

No matter how busy I was with work and school, I always took the time to plan out where I saw myself at the end of the day, the end of the month, and the end of the year. I was always making sure that my life was driven by an ambition that provided me with a sense of self-worth and purpose, and those ambitions were translated into goals with scalable plans on when and how to achieve those goals.

No matter how busy you get, remember to slow down to speed up, to plan for your success.
