Reassessing Goals

The show “Revenge”, always had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what was about to happen next as I gasped with each scandalous ordeal.
Finding out the show is about to be no more, each episode somehow managed to get more dramatic and leaving me with a sense of sorrow.
The main character becomes fixated on making it her lifelong goal to clear her father’s name of any wrong doing, and punishing those who played a part in her father being falsely accused and wrongly imprisoned.
Her goal of clearing her father’s name becomes an obsessive need, which causes her to go about inflicting pain and problems on those who did her father wrong.
When she finally reaches her goal to clear her father’s name, she realizes she has become so obsessed with clearing her father’s name that she destroyed so many lives in the process that she only has blood on her hands – when she is finally on top of the mountain of success, she can’t help but sigh with regret, wondering if all her time, energy, and effort was worth it all and for what.
She showed me the importance of chasing after your goals, like a dog running after a bone, but knowing the fine between desire and sheer insanity.
While I can’t stop emphasizing the importance of goal setting and planning, I also can’t stop emphasizing the importance of reassessing goals.

The Pinnacle of Success

https://creatinggrowthwithifrah.wordpress.com/2015/05/03/the-pinnacle-of-success/

Sometimes when you hit the peak of success, you cringe in fear thinking that your growth will soon be halting as you have plateaued out.

The fear of what is next can often consume you, as the fear of the unknown and unanswered questions start accumulating.

The journey to find the height of success is often associated with growing pains, as most people are aware of the turbulent ups and downs they have to endure with tenacity to reach their goals.

But what happens when you successfully reach your long term goals.
There comes a time in your life though, when you are at the pinnacle of your success, by having achieved your goals whether it is work, school, family, and/or friends related– and as you stand on the mountain top, you can’t help but look down and scream in fear.

At the age of 24, where I have earned my MBA, and have successfully helped launch a locally owned family run restaurant through my marketing and advertising efforts – I am at the pinnacle of success by having climbed to the mountain top.

Instead of looking down from the mountain top, with fear consuming me to wonder what next awaits me, I find excitement knowing that life will still provide me endless opportunities – even if I don’t have it all planned out to perfection.

Accomplishing the goals you had penned out in your agenda, and one day waking up to find that you have successfully fulfilled the goal requirements, sometimes gives birth to both shock and an identity crisis – where you feel that you are no longer waking up with a sense of purpose, where you feel void of a sense of direction.

Even though it is difficult, coming to terms that you have successfully accomplished the entirety of your goals you had set in the past, it is exciting to realize that this creates an exciting opportunity to set more long term goals for the potential to reassess your current life and what you want your life to be in the future.

I am a firm believer that you have to have faith in the future, knowing that the best is yet to come.

Working In Retail. It’s All About That … Servant Leadership.

Working in retail has gotten a bad rep, to the point that people hesitate working in this particular industry.
Working In Retail. It's All About That ... Servant Leadership

My first employment opportunity was working with Bath & Body Works as a sales associate, and it is arguably one of the best jobs I have had to this day – teaching me a lot of about myself and work place protocol, while having fun and making friends.

This particular store and employment opportunity had such an impact on me that I realized my calling in life was not in healthcare, but rather it was building up people to help train and empower teams (by helping people realize that they have the potential to simultaneously create positive progress for themselves and the organization).

Working in the retail has taught me the importance of valuing your team.

Working in retail has helped me realize the importance of building up people through servant leadership.

Servant leadership helps both individuals and organizations create growth, by finding and promoting a unifying vision and vibe to provide an emotionally fulfilling purpose, promoting empowerment, and promoting goals driven with an emotional commitment (to align purpose, passion, and pledge to provide positive results).

The Only Thing I Love More Than Coffee Is Team Unity

Yesterday afternoon, after successfully passing part one of the notoriously difficult Google Adwords certification exam, I decided to treat myself to a Starbucks sugar rush.
I threw on my jacket and slide into a pair of flip flops, and a few minutes later arrived to my destination while wearing my sweatpants, flip flops, and looking like a mess – yet to still be greeted and served with legendary customer service, in a nonjudgmental manner.
I frequent this particular Starbucks even though it is nowhere near my house, as the legendary customer service they provide me is worth the drive.
My brief Starbucks visit yesterday, left me with nothing but smiles, as my tall caramel frap with whipped cream with extra extra extra caramel and three birthday cakes pops was nothing short of delicious. What really brought a smile to my face though was the speed and efficiency, personalized experience with legendary customer service, and the ambiance of team warmth seeping in to make me feel welcome.
By the time I was handed my receipt, my caramel frap was already prepared – illustrating how mind-blowingly fast they were working, and illustrating how in sync they were in understanding who was doing what and when.
The brief Starbucks visit caused me to start thinking about my own adventures in the food industry.
Having working experience in helping launch our new locally owned family run restaurant, has given me invaluable knowledge of the different facets of business from everything in finance and logistics, human resources, talent acquisition, team training, marketing, SEO, SEM, social media management, branding, and more.
Working in the food industry has been the most challenging experience yet the most rewarding experience of my young adult life.
I would wake up smiling early in the morning, and helping prepare the kitchen for the lunch rush. After the food was freshly prepared and the kitchen was then thoroughly cleaned to be spotless, I would focus on serving guests while we were open to help serve a high large volume of people to focus on speed and efficiency while preparing and packing food orders through the drive thru window and call in orders through the phone – while providing legendary customer service and keeping a clean kitchen.  I would then help prepare for the dinner rush, and then help close at nights with deep cleaning. I would then stay up, late at night, working on what I know and love – marketing.
We have been blessedly busy at Amarillo Hut to the point that both phone lines are often busy with people ready to place call in orders, multiple cars lined up with people at our drive through window ready to place their orders, and people at the front window inquiring more information about the menu and requesting samples.
The daunting task of answering the phone and processing call in orders, to cashiering, preparing beverages, to preparing the samples, to preparing and packing orders, to operating the drive through window – would be impossible without the backbone of our trusted and trained team.
Having a trusted and trained team in place is hard in the food industry, hence a high turnover rate, because invaluable team members are often cross trained and experts in working with people (whether customers or other team members), experts in quickly learning, and experts in multitasking.
Finding people with pleasant personalities that are both passionate about serving other people and preparing food, in a very fast paced demanding paced environment – is often a challenge.
Finding people who are good at what they do and a good fit for your organizational vision and vibe, while also a good fit with your other team members – is often a challenge, so when there is team unity, I can’t help but smile.
I can’t thank my own team enough for their hard work and contributions, serving as the back bone of our success.
Having a trusted and trained team in place, has allowed me to the opportunity to step away from the daily operations of running a day to day restaurant, and has allowed me to have more free time to focus on what I am truly passionate about – helping people and companies grow through sales and marketing [(SEO/SEM), blogging, branding, social media management, customer service and team training, and human resources].

Sometimes You Have To Slow Down To Speed Up

Sometimes You Have To Slow Down To Speed Up

I remember the first time, I attempted to make Ramen Noodles – it was eventful as I almost caught the house on fire. I am sure there are some people wondering how anyone could mess up something as simple as that, and from that one question stems a lifelong lesson I learned on that eventful day.

The Ramen Noodles fiasco began one afternoon when I was home alone for just a few moments as my mom was going to pick up my younger brother from school (as we were in different schools due to different grades – we started and finished school at different times, hence why we had different pick up times). Home alone with a pang of pain setting in as my stomach was churning with hunger, as I was accustomed to having some food already waiting for me at the table, while my mom went to pick up my brother from school.

Hungry and impatient, I grabbed the box of Ramen Noodles to hastily read the instructions – in the midst of rushing, I didn’t read where it said to add water.

Yes, it was a nightmare.

Am I glad it happened – yes, as I learned the importance of sometimes you have to be willing to slow down to speed up.

In today’s day and age, with so many things demanding our time, energy, and effort – in between the juggling act to find a work – life balance in midst of  work, school, family, and friends … it is easier said than done to not feel rushed and make rash decisions.

People often assume that I am a young successful adult, to have earned my Master Of Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis in Marketing and have helped launch a successfully locally owned family run restaurant – people assume that sheer intelligence and luck have contributed to me now being a current cofounder and  marketing director, at the age of 24.

I am where I am in life now, due to passion and planning.

No matter how busy I was with work and school, I always took the time to plan out where I saw myself at the end of the day, the end of the month, and the end of the year. I was always making sure that my life was driven by an ambition that provided me with a sense of self-worth and purpose, and those ambitions were translated into goals with scalable plans on when and how to achieve those goals.

No matter how busy you get, remember to slow down to speed up, to plan for your success.
